THE NEW ORLEANS BLACK FILM FESTIVAL AND FOUNDATION

On July 4, 2009 the New Orleans Black Film Festival and Foundation (NOBFF) will premier Louisiana as the ultimate source for making urban films at the largest African American entertainment event in the country with more than 200,000 attendees over a three day period during the world renowned Essence Fest. During it’s kick off event aboard the Steam Boat Natchez, the New Orleans Black Film Festival opens it’s festival submission season for it’s upcoming film festival during Black History month, February 4-6, 2010.

The purpose of the New Orleans Black Film Festival and Foundation event is to provide opportunities for African American businesses, entrepreneurs and filmmakers to be part of an ever expanding industry in Louisiana. The New Orleans Black Film Festival Foundation (NOBFF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting aspiring filmmakers, directors, and producers with technical assistance in producing quality films in the New Orleans area and Louisiana as a whole.

The New Orleans Black Film Festival and Foundation will harness the tax credit opportunity created by the Louisiana Legislature in 2001 to market the benefits of attracting potential urban filmmakers with budgets under $1 million to Louisiana. Our mission is to brand Louisiana as not only “Hollywood South, but Black Hollywood South.” We believe that there’s a gold mine in making and branding movies for the African American market here in Louisiana and then shown on networks with urban target audiences like BET, BETJ, TV One, with specific viewing demographics seeking quality entertainment content.

The New Orleans Black Film Festival and Foundation can be a model that can be used to produce African American entertainment and educational programs similar to the Sundance Film Festival model. Our goal is to provide ongoing training programs which will provide emerging filmmakers the tools, resources and network to create films, while simultaneously expanding the market place for commerce.

Louisiana has the opportunity to brand itself as the place for African Americans to make movies with the most support from state and local government, a diversity of filming locations, trained film crews and a large number of minority business to support any size venture.

In partnership with the Louisiana Film Commission, as well as local city governments in an effort to develop Louisiana as the place for African Americans to make their films. We ask for your support, as we present Louisiana as the ultimate place to make movies.
